Celebrating Strength, Confidence, and a Fresh Start
Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph a good friend who came into the studio for a new set of professional commercial headshots. While the goal was to update her professional image, the session quickly became something much more meaningful.
Over the past year, she has worked incredibly hard on her health and wellness journey, losing weight and building a level of confidence that she truly deserved to see reflected back at her. Like many people, she had spent years putting herself last, focusing on work, family, and everything else life throws at us. But this time, she decided to do something for herself.
When she walked into the studio, she admitted she was a little nervous. That’s something I hear all the time. Even confident people feel that way when stepping in front of the camera. But as we started working through a few simple poses and relaxed conversations, something amazing happened — her confidence began to show.
The camera has a way of capturing more than just appearance. It captures personality, strength, and the energy someone brings into the room. By the middle of the session, the nerves had disappeared and were replaced with laughter, big smiles, and a sense of pride in how far she had come.
For her, these photos weren’t just about updating a profile picture or a business page. They were about acknowledging the work she had put into herself and celebrating the progress she had made.
Professional headshots often serve many purposes — LinkedIn profiles, business branding, websites, and marketing materials — but they can also be incredibly personal. They mark moments in time where someone says, “This is who I am right now, and I’m proud of it.”
Watching someone see their images for the first time is always one of my favorite parts of the process. The moment she saw the photos, the smile said everything. She saw the strength, the progress, and the confidence that had been building all along.
Sometimes a photo session isn’t just about the pictures.
Sometimes it’s about seeing yourself the way the rest of the world already does.
And that’s always worth capturing.
