There’s something magical about the change of seasons here in Maine. One week it feels like summer will never end — warm days, long evenings, and that golden August light. Then almost overnight, the air turns crisp, the leaves begin to shift, and we’re reminded that fall is knocking at the door. 🍂

For me as a photographer, this change is one of the most exciting times of the year. Fall is short but spectacular — the colors, the cozy layers, and the way families naturally come together before the holidays make it one of the most popular seasons for photos.

Why Fall Works So Well for Photos

• Color: Nowhere else do you get the deep reds, glowing oranges, and bright yellows that make Maine famous. Nature provides the best backdrop you could ask for.

• Light: Autumn sunlight is softer, golden, and perfect for highlighting faces and details without the harshness of summer’s mid-day sun.

• Mood: There’s just something about pulling on a sweater, wrapping your hands around a warm drink, and stepping into a field of falling leaves with family. The season itself creates the atmosphere.

The only challenge with fall is that it doesn’t last long. A few weeks of peak color, and before you know it, the leaves are gone. That’s why I always encourage families, couples, and seniors to book their sessions early — waiting too long might mean missing that perfect weekend.
